This Rolex GMT-Master II “Pepsi”, reference 126710 is well and truly one of the most iconic watches ever. What’s perhaps most extraordinary about this watch is how little it has changed from the original GMT-Master released in 1954.

Originally developed as a practical tool for pilots who needed to keep track of time across multiple time-zones, the GMT-Master II quickly found a loyal following amongst businessmen and beyond due to its reliability and pure good looks. Rolex’s watchmakers clearly got the memo, and came up with a perfect fit-for-purpose watch.

FEATURES

Features include bi-directional rotating bezel, GMT function, luminescent hands/hour markers, quick-set date function, quick-set hour hand (which allows the GMT to be independently set) and screw-down crown ensuring up to 100 metres of water resistance.

5-digit Rolexes (16710) fall into neo-vintage category of watches which have exploded in popularity in recent years, and this particular piece is an excellent example of what makes them so captivating. The watch comes from the pre 2010’s era where Rolex made cases in much more wearable - for the average person - case dimensions, with a case diameter of 40mm and thickness of 12mm, making it sit low, flat and flush on the wrist – a real pleasure to wear.

Powering the watch is the Rolex calibre 3185 with independently-set GMT hand, hacking-seconds, bi-directional automatic winding and Breguet overcoil hairspring + microstella regulation screws ensuring excellent timekeeping.
